CE Marking

EN1057:1996 Seamless, round copper tubes for water and gas in sanitary and heating applications, was revised, in 2006, within the framework of two mandates given to CEN by the European Commission and the Free Trade Association, and supports the essential requirements of the EU Construction Products Directive (CPD) 89/106/EEC and the EU Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) 97/23/EC.
As such, from 1 March 2009, the CE mark must be applied to copper tubes in accordance with the Decision of the Commission 99/472/EC of 1 July 1999 as given in Annex III of the mandate for

"Pipes, tanks and ancillaries not in contact with water for human consumption".

National regulations in the European countries specify that copper tubes to EN 1057 are suitable for drinking water applications.

In due course, a proposed European Acceptance Scheme (EAS) will introduce common EU requirements for testing for fitness for contact with drinking water. When the EAS is implemented, EN 1057 will be modified to include these requirements, which will allow the CE mark to be applied also with relevance to drinking water applications.
